COVID-19 : Actions taken to reduce the risk of transmission

Written by James Upchurch

PURSUANT TO NCGS 99E-71(b), PLEASE TAKE NOTICE OF ACTIONS TAKEN BY ST. ANDREWS FOR THE PURPOSE OF REDUCING THE RISK OF TRANSMISSION OF  COVID-19 TO INDIVIDUALS PRESENT ON THESE PREMISES.

  • Our top priority is the safety, health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Our COVID-19 protocol is based on the safety recommendations from the CDC and our infection prevention experts.

WEAR A FACE COVERING:  We require that everyone on campus wear a face covering. The face covering should cover your nose and mouth. St. Andrews will provide all students, faculty, and staff with one face covering. Other face coverings are available at the Knight Reception Center, Registrar’s Office, Physical Education Building, Equestrian Center, and Library.

PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE: We strongly encourage good and frequent hand hygiene, which includes handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and/or the use hand sanitizer located throughout all facilities.

PARTICIPATE IN DAILY SYMPTOM MONITORING:  We require all students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors to complete a daily symptom screening process. Everyone will have their temperature screened daily. Temperatures of 100.3 or less are required to enter academic and student life buildings. Students with COVID-19 symptoms or a high temperature have been instructed to contact Health and Wellness for clinical evaluation and quarantine instructions. There is a quarantine residence hall.

Faculty and staff members with COVID-19 symptoms or a high temperature have been instructed to contact their department chair or manager to report their symptoms and to stay home.

MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE: There is one-way traffic in many hallways and separate enter and exit doors. Seated courses will utilize social distancing; and some will be administered in a hybrid format. Tables in the cafeteria are social distanced and additional seating has been provided.

LIMIT NUMBER OF VISITORS: No visitors will be permitted for the first two weeks of class. After the first two weeks, requests for visitors must be approved. Visitors must check in with campus safety and complete COVID-19 symptom screening and temperature check.

ENHANCED CLEANING PROTOCOL: We have enhanced cleaning protocols throughout our facilities.

STUDENT & EMPLOYEE EDUCATION: We provide COVID-19 protocol training to all new and returning students, faculty, and staff members in an effort to reduce the risk of transmission and infection. Training and communication is ongoing with the fluidity of new information.
