Welcome to Campus Ministry at St. Andrews. Our goal is to help students become resilient disciples of Christ. To build resilience we focus on three key areas of development: Identity, Belonging, and Service. Students are encouraged to live out their faith and become the people God has called them to be in a hurting and broken world.
Encountering God on a regular basis is part of our identity as followers of Jesus. One way we encounter God is through worship. The campus chaplain’s office offers non-denominational Christian worship every other week during the semester. We meet for Bible study, games, and prayer. Assistance is also available to students of all faiths who seek places of worship in the area.
Another way we encounter God is through intentional relationships with other believers. At the beginning of each semester, students are encouraged to join a dorm group for further Bible Study and discussion.
In the summer of 2020, Rev. Cynthia Purvis joined the St. Andrews community.
A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Education/Youth Ministry, she has over ten years of experience developing programs and strategies for youth and young adults to engage in worship, Bible study, and missional service.
Ordained in 2012 by the Santa Barbara Presbytery, Cynthia previously served as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults at StoneBridge Community Church in Simi Valley, California. With a BA in English from Westmont College, she wishes she had enough time to read all the books on her reading list. Feel free to drop her a note or stop by her office in Belk to say hi.
