Christmas Cheer Far and Near; Operation Knights

Christmas Cheer Far & Near Campaign Reaches 180% of Goal!

This year, the pandemic turned the entire world upside down. Many countries have strict travel restrictions in place which made returning home problematic for some of St. Andrews’ international students. Whether it was concerns about returning to the U.S., the safety of remaining on a currently COVID-free campus, or for other reasons, some students will remain on campus throughout winter break. Whenever there are students living on campus, a Resident Hall Director must also be present. The Christmas Cheer Far & Near; Operation Knights Campaign was organized with the effort to aid both the students who were unable to return home for the holidays and the Resident Hall Director who stepped up to stay with them. The campaign received donations to provide gift cards for essential items to those staying on campus over the winter break.

The semester wrapped up on December 11th, 2020 and will continue through January 4th, 2021. Eleven students have received gift cards to use during the 25 days of winter break. Dr. Ellen Bernhardt, Interim Campus President, was delighted to hear of the swift success of the Christmas Cheer Far & Near; Operation Knights Campaign, her brainchild. Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez, Dean of Students, coordinated the logistics to allow students to remain on campus as well as organized the distribution of the gift cards. Dr. Hernandez was also thrilled to hear about the donors who stepped up so quickly to support the students.

St. Andrews University, a branch of Webber International University, has wonderful supporters who immediately donated to benefit these students and in less than 24 hours, the campaign minimum goal was met! To date, over 50 alumni and individuals donated some $5,395. The additional funds raised will be held in reserve for any student emergencies that may arise during the winter break.
