FALL 2020 SEMESTER

Written by James Upchurch

Dear St. Andrews community,

We at St. Andrews hope that this communication finds you and your loved ones safe and well.

We know how critical in-person instruction, hands-on learning, and activities with friends and peers are to a well-rounded student experience. As faculty and staff, we miss our interactions with students and each other, experiences that are important to maintaining the sense of community we feel deeply at St. Andrews. We also know we must be responsible about balancing the return to classrooms, offices, and residence halls with the health and safety of Knight Nation and the uncertainty this pandemic poses.

After consulting with our local public health officials, we’ve made the decision to have seated classes this fall.  New Students Orientation will be from August 21 to August 23, and seated class will begin on Tuesday, August 25. This is an ongoing situation. If anything changes, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Given our location in North Carolina, cases around the county have been minimal. At this time, there have not been any COVID 19 cases on our campus, not one student, faculty, coach, or staff member has been ill with the virus. We want to let you know that the health of our students and employees, especially those who may be at higher risk, is our top priority in making this decision. We have been following CDC guidelines and have been in contact with Scotland Memorial Hospital since March.

Our leadership team continues to meet every day to ensure we are welcoming you back to campus as safely as possible. As we move through that process, we will post updates online and send regular communication to keep you informed.  Our academic advisors are available to assist you with registration for summer and/or fall classes. The admissions, financial aid, registrar, business office, and career services offices are here to support you and answer questions. Your coaches will be staying in touch with and encouraging you to participate in virtual work outs so that you are ready to participate in for fall sports. We are here, even if you just want to call and tell us what you are doing this summer!

We look forward to our SAU family being together again on campus.

Best regards
