New Board of Trustees Member – Frederick McCoy

Laurinburg, North Carolina – St. Andrews University, a branch of Webber International University, is proud to welcome R. Frederick McCoy, Jr. as he rejoins the Board of Trustees. Electing Mr. McCoy to the Board was a unanimous decision.

Mr. McCoy says, “I’m happy to rejoin the Board. By all reasonable measures, the Board and University leadership have achieved tangible growth successes during a challenging period. I hope to be able to contribute to their progress towards a bright future.”

Fred McCoy is the former Chief Executive Officer of NeuroTronik Limited, a development-stage, venture-backed medical technology company which has undertaken development of a novel approach for the treatment of advanced acute heart failure in the hospital.

A native of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Mr. McCoy graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979. He graduated as a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1981.

Mr. McCoy built his early career with Eli Lilly and Company, and its successor company in medical technology, Guidant Corporation. Among his general management roles were President, Guidant Japan and Asia Pacific Operations from 1997-2000 and President, Guidant Cardiac Rhythm Management from 2000-2006.

Mr. McCoy was a Director of NeuroTronik Limited and of a related company, Interventional Autonomics Corporation. He recently served on the Boards of Directors of Physcient, Inc.  and Renovion, Inc. He is Vice-Chairman and a partnership member of Synecor, LLC, a medical technology business generator. He serves on the Boards of Directors of several family enterprises.

Until 2018, Mr. McCoy served on the Boards of Trustees of Webber International University and of St. Andrews University. He has served on the Board of Visitors and on the Chancellor’s Innovation Circle, both of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has served as a member of the Kellogg Alumni Council of the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, where he is past-Chairman.

Mr. McCoy lives in the United States in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is active in family, faith, outdoors, athletic and civic pursuits.
