Can I get a Library card if I am not a St. Andrews faculty, staff, or student?
There is a registration form to complete. You must be a resident of Scotland County and be at least 18 years old. If you are approved, a letter will be mailed to your home address and you will be required to obtain an ID card from the St. Andrews Security Office (277-5112).
Where do I park at the Library?
Parking is available in the Vardell or Liberal Arts parking lots only.
Do you accept donations?
We only accept unrestricted gifts. It will be up to the discretion of the Library Director to decide if materials are added to our collection.
How can I get help finding information?
What and where are Course Reserves?
Professors often put materials in the Library to be available for all the students in a class. This may include articles, books, reports, or other items. Check out at the Information Desk. You must have your ID card. Most Reserve items are Library Use Only.
How do I cite resources and create bibliographies for my papers?
Use the Writing and Citing Guide. Make sure to find out from your professor what format is required (MLA, APA, CMS, etc.)
How do I search for articles?
Use the Research Guides to point you to the best databases in your subject area. Proquest Central is a great place to search for articles in 39 databases. It includes articles on a variety of subject areas. In WorldCat, you can limit your search to articles. You can also search for Articles in specific databases.
How do I find books?
Use WorldCat to locate books, both print and ebooks. You can limit your search to books or ebooks or select the books tab, from the library homepage, before you search.
Where do I locate the print books?
Use the Library of Congress call number from WorldCat to find your books. Most of the Main Collection is on the 3rd floor. Ask for help at the Information Desk if you have any problems.
How do I find DVDs, streaming video, and other materials?
WorldCat allows you to search across all formats, then limit to the type you need.
How do I get materials that our Library does not own?
You can click on the Request Item through Interlibrary Loan button in WorldCat. This service is only available to St. Andrews students, faculty, and staff. You can also fill out a form at the Library or contact Mary McDonald.
How does Interlibrary Loan work?
Request items through WorldCat, or contact Mary McDonald by phone (5023), email, or in person. You will be notified through campus email when your item is ordered and received. There is no cost. You will be contacted if you submit more than 5 items at a time.
How do I know what databases to choose for my research?
What is NC LIVE?
NC LIVE provides a gateway to over 89 databases for all the people of North Carolina. You can choose to search for articles, books, videos, and more from the NC LIVE site.
Does the Library have study rooms?
The Reynolds Reading Room on the 2nd floor is available for study or group work. Desks and tables on all floors provide space for private or small group study.
Do you have laptops to use in the Library?
Yes! We have 9 new Chromebooks and two new iPads. You can check these out at the front desk and use them in the Library. They will all print to the Library printers.
How do I check out a laptop to use in my dorm room?
The Library has some older Dell laptops that can be checked out for two weeks (with one renewal). Use your current St. Andrews ID card at the Information Desk. Once you fill out the Laptop agreement, you are cleared to check out the laptops. Only current SAU students, faculty, and staff can check out laptops.

Can I connect to the Library from off campus?
How can I print papers in the Library?
The Library has four printers available with wireless access that will print from all Library devices or your personal tablets or phones.
Can I scan or copy print materials in the Library?
Yes, use your user name and password on our copier.
How can I place items on Reserve?
Bring the items to the Information Desk and fill out the Reserve Form. Please allow 24 hours for processing.
How do I schedule the Librarian to work with my Class on Research Skills?
