The Equine Business Management, Therapeutic Horsemanship and Biology with a Specialization in Equine Science programs offer students hands-on experiences through internships. Often these internships lead to employment after graduation as well as allowing students to network and develop their own professional contacts.
My internship provided me with guidance for my future, plus the skills and experience I will need to succeed in any industry I choose to pursue.
Jarret Vaughn 2017. Summer 2016 internship at Dean Bogart Performance Horses.
My internship allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the industry I will be working in after graduation. It also allowed me to realize what type of career I would like to go into after I graduate from St. Andrews University.
Rachel Gaardsmoe 2016. Equul Access Therapeutic Horsemanship Center.
I really enjoyed my summer at the center! I was able to refine the skills that I have learned in the classroom and in the teaching practicum, learn new skills, and see what a job as a TH instructor would be like after I graduate. I also now have a potential job opportunity before I even graduate. I would highly recommend doing an internship to any student!
Sarah Schlosser 2017. Franklin County 4-H Thearpeutic Riding Center.
The knowledge you gain from being able to go out and spend some time working in the real world really helps to get a perspective of what life after college is about. I was able to see what it takes to run a Therapeutic Horsemanship program, including hands on risk management.
Courtney Anderson 2017. Strides Ahead Equine Assisted Therapies.
The Pre-Vet internship with Dr. Kellam is the reason I came to St. Andrews. The hands on experiences that we have had in the internship have been priceless. I never would have imagined having the opportunity to work with ultrasound equipment, be on call to help with emergencies, and even travel to South Africa! Being an intern is time consuming, but worth all the extra hours! Thanks to the opportunities that being an intern has opened up and the work we do with Dr. K, I feel more confident in myself, and more prepared as I apply to vet school and prepare for life after St. Andrews.
Samantha Bollinger 2017. Pre-Vet Intern St. Andrews Equestrian Center.
