St. Andrews offers courses in chemistry and biochemistry. Students receive hands-on instrumentation experience and perform undergraduate research. Students are also taught how to search chemical literature, follow and learn from scientific presentations, and give effective oral presentations on research topics.
Perhaps the true proof that a St. Andrews chemistry minor is outstanding is that graduates are successful. St. Andrews graduates have embarked on diverse careers in chemistry, pharmacy, biochemistry and environmental science. Many St. Andrews graduates move on to graduate school (including Duke University, University of Tennessee, Northwestern, Colorado State, Wake Forest, University of North Carolina and Virginia Tech, to name a few) and medical and nursing schools.
St. Andrews exemplary Chemistry graduates have worked at companies, such as Glaxo-Wellcome pharmaceuticals, The DuPont Chemical Company, Bausch and Lomb (Optical Division of Johnson & Johnson) and Esteé Lauder Cosmetics. In addition, we have graduates in faculty and research positions at Georgia Tech University (analytical chemistry) and Louisiana State University (biochemistry). In 2013, our Chemistry Major was focused into the form of a minor.
