Spanish

At St. Andrews we understand the importance of being bilingual in our contemporary world, and especially in the US. Our Spanish Language Program (SLP) strives for proficiency in all four language areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our core Spanish courses, Spanish 151 and Spanish 152, help the students achieve a basic level of communication, which enables them to interact with native speakers in different contexts and situations and prepares them to be professionally proficient in a second language. Besides that, our courses offer the students a first contact with the culture richness of the Spanish-speaking world.

Spanish in Spain

St. Andrews offers a summer credit course in Santiago de Compostela, the final destination of “The Way”—the famous European medieval pilgrimage considered the “backbone of Europe.” In this summer course, students will be immersed in the language and rich culture of a medieval university city, enjoying its history, Celtic roots, and amazing seafood. In addition to daily classes, students will live with Spanish families helping them put into practice their language knowledge. The program also offers diverse experiences such as walking one stage of “The Way,” swimming at the Cíes Islands—where they can enjoy one of the best beaches in the world—or visiting the headquarters of the famous Spanish clothing brand Zara. Unforgettable!
